About Us

 "Friends In Frederick" Parkinson Disease Support Group was established to answer a growing need within Frederick County that continues today.

"Friends In Frederick" is dedicated to serving the needs of all who attend. Part of each meeting offers an opportunity for individuals to ask questions and share experiences, fears, or accomplishments. Any question, regardless of subject, is welcomed. Participation in the discussions is encouraged but not required.

Remember that people with Parkinson's Disease do better when they participate in a support group. Your support group can be an important part of your healthcare team.

According to the Mayo Clinic the benefits of participating in support groups may include:

  • Feeling less lonely, isolated or judged
  • Gaining a sense of empowerment and control
  • Improving your coping skills and sense of adjustment
  • Talking openly and honestly about your feelings
  • Reducing distress, depression or anxiety
  • Developing a clearer understanding of what to expect with your situation
  • Getting practical advice or information about treatment options
  • Comparing notes about resources, such as doctors and alternative options

Library

We have a lending library of information on Parkinson's Disease and various Parkinson's teatments. Members are free to borrow books, DVDs, and other materials from the library at any meeting. Return the items at the next meeting or when you finish with them.
